I've been drawing since I was two. I got my first professional gig at 16 when I beat out three photographers to illustrate a university biology book. I drew the Chevrolet logo you see in the commercials and probably lots of other things you were unaware I did.

I have this strange obsession with Catholic art, which is strange because I am not. I was raised Baptist, became a Wiccan at age 15, and changed religion a third time at age 28: when I was called to Santería. The ilé (house or church) I was in was not a Catholic Santería ilé like you see in the movies. We were very African.
In fact, we never actually said the word Santería, unless we were discussing a decent book about the religion. We always said Lukumí, a pseudo-Yoruba term meaning roughly, “Owners of the selected heads.”
